Public Policy & Advocacy
Through our public policy and advocacy work, we promote lawyers’ interests and protect the legal profession’s core values from regulatory and legislative encroachment. By bringing lawyers’ perspective to the public debate, we strive to improve the law and the administration of justice, and to promote equality and access to justice.
The CBA-NT Branch is proactive in providing input on legislative proposals, government initiatives and issues of general public interest. We engage our members to participate in discussions and draft submissions based on their areas of expertise.
Examples of recent CBA-NT advocacy include:
- Advising territorial MLA’s about the CBA’s efforts to assist with Syrian refugee applications
- Responding to the Government of the Northwest Territories’ changes to the Mental Health Act
